Mindanao is the second largest and most eastern island in the Philippines. It is one of the three islands of the country such as Luzon and Visayas. It was known as Gran Molucas and Great Mollucas in history.

History
The region was the main center of the Sulu and Mughal Sultans. The first encounters with Spain occurred when Spanish forces invaded the area in the late 16th and early 17th centuries.
In the 14th century, the Mughal Empire passed under the Spanish rule.
Religion

More than 70% of the population is a Christian, the Christian denomination is the Catholic Denomination with 60.9%. The proportion of Muslims is 20.44%. [1] Until the 20th century, Muslims were in the majority, and the Christian Filipino emigrated to the minority. [1]

Political sections
The Mindanao island group is divided into 6 administrative regions: Zamboanga Peninsula, North Mindanao, Caraga, Davao, SOCCSKSARGEN and Bangsamoro. There are 22 provinces and 30 cities in these six regions. Only four of them are not on the island of Mindanao. These islands:
The Sulu Archipelago, which includes major islands such as Basilan, Jolo and Tawi-Tawi in the southwest, are Camiguin, Dinagat and Siargao.
